What Do You Seek?

Prayer_General

“Again the next day John was standing with two of his disciples, and he looked at Jesus as He walked, and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God!" The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. And Jesus turned and saw them following, and said to them, "What do you seek?" They said to Him, "Rabbi (which translated means Teacher), where are You staying?" He said to them, "Come, and you will see." So they came and saw where He was staying; and they stayed with Him that day, for it was about the tenth hour."

 John 1:35-39 NAS

Greetings prayer partner,

As we continue in this “Season of Seeking,” I was prompted during a time of prayer to really pinpoint what it is that I am “seeking.” Several Scripture references flooded my mind in that moment, but the first one is found in John chapter 1. John the Baptist is testifying that Jesus is, “the Lamb of God” and two of the men who had been following and listening begin to literally follow behind Jesus. Jesus turns around to them and asks, “What do you seek?” Pause and imagine for a moment, the Son of God asking you, “What do you seek? How would you answer Him?

How can we find what we are seeking if we don’t know what it is that we are searching for? I am sure these two men were startled when Jesus addressed them as it seemed they just wanted to get closer to Him, perhaps hear Him speak or learn more about this man that John testified to be, “the Son of God.” These did not give an answer but instead responded back with a question, “Rabbi, where are you staying?” and Jesus invited them to” come and see.” From that moment forward, their lives would never be the same again, if fact after spending the day with Jesus they are immediately recorded running to family and friends and telling them they have found the Messiah and urging them to, “come and see.” Then Jesus said to them, “Follow Me.”

In this season of seeking, I realized all I wanted was more God, not more from God, just to know Him more. I have yearned to sit in His presence and be with Him, learn about Him and from Him and what delights Him, what it means to love and obey Him, and to be formed into character and have the mind of Christ. All of these were with a heart seeking to know Him more. Chances are whatever you have been seeking is actually found as you seek Jesus. Not seeking God’s hand to give you something but seeking His face and realizing He is WHO you are seeking. You may be seeking answers, peace, rest, direction, love, comfort, hope… and Jesus is all of these and more. He is the way, the truth and the life. He is the Prince of Peace, The Good Shepherd, our Rock and Refuge, the Anchor of Hope. He is love.

Do you know anyone who is in need of peace, love, direction, hope, forgiveness, salvation? As we come to the end of January, we encourage you to do as the first disciples did and go invite family and friends to join you in this season of seeking, to “Come and see.”

Would you please join us in prayer now?

Lord, You invite us to seek You, to seek Your face, to come humbly to You, our Savior, our Shepherd, our Sun and Shield, our Source. Thank You. As we draw nearer we learn about You and in our walk with You we get to know You. Our relationship with You defines and refines us. All that You are is all that we need. You guide and grow us because You know us, You created us, purposed us, saved us, love us, and are always with us even when we do not seek or respond to You, You pursue us. Thank You for revealing more and more to us as we seek You fervently. In Your precious name we pray, Amen!

Serving Him with gladness,
