Museum of the Bible Prayer Walking Guide

Journey through the Museum of the Bible at an intentional, prayerful pace, experiencing the exhibits as opportunities to learn, deepen your faith, and prompt prayer.

This guide, written by NDP Task Force President Kathy Branzell, covers each floor of the Museum and guides through the various exhibits and the special ticketed activities.

Entrance

Entering through the 40-foot-high brass gates, you will see the gates contain the first lines from Genesis in Latin from a Gutenberg Bible.  Pray as you enter that people will come with an open heart and mind to all that God is, all that He has done, all that He has promised and all He has planned and prepared. The Earth is the Lord and all it contains.

Grand Hallway

This hallway is designed to inspire the awe of God and features many pieces of art. Pause and pray for the people who come through those doors every day, many of them are not Christians and have never read the Bible. Pray that they would become curious and that God would draw them closer to Him as they visit the Museum of the Bible.

This is also a great place to pray for artists, and the use of their talent to express God and His glory in their sculpting, drawings, paintings, stained glass, and more.

Subfloor 1

All Creation Sings (Special Ticketed Exhibit)

Pray that we would all know God as the Creator of all that exists and would  express our gratitude and glorify Him with songs of praise and joyful noises. Pray for musicians, including choirs, bands, symphonies, writers, composers, producers and everyone involved in the music industry.

Floor One

Artifacts Exhibit

Thank God for all of His story that is revealed throughout time. Praise Him for the talents of archeologist and for all the artifacts that fill this Museum and give cause for those who dispute or deny God and the Bible, to pause and see how so many things and names from the Bible have indeed been discovered and recovered through archeology and extrabiblical texts.

Israel Virtual Reality

Pray for Israel.

Courageous Pages Kid’s Experience

Pray for families and children. Pray that every child would be raised up in the Word of God and taught to pray, growing up with a spirit of power, love, and sound discipline. Jesus said, “let the little children come unto Me and do not hinder them..." Pray that no child would be hindered or harmed, but filled with hope by the God of Hope.

Floor Two

As we come up the stairs to the second floor, there’s the beautiful Tiffany stained-glass of Resurrection Sunday.

This is the reason that we’re here, the reason that we live, the reason that we have hope. Pause and pray for the salvation of someone you know who does not know Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

Bible In America

As you enter the area of the impact of the Bible in America, first paused to thank God for all of those who are willing to make the journey to America and who brought their Bibles with them. As you walk through this section of the Museum of the Bible, you will read and hear about various states and areas; pray over them and those serving in the NDPTF in those areas and states.

Whitfield and The Great Awakening

Pray for another Great Awakening in America that will spread across the world.

Continue walking to the area where the reproduction of Liberty Bell stands. We are reminded that liberty comes from God. Pray and thank Him for your freedom and the Truth that sets you free. Note the Declaration of Independence; pause to pray, asking God to compel our lawmakers and those who lead us in government to know the Constitution, and most of all to know their Bible and the God who “breathed it.”

Continue through the area that discusses Scripture used as a liberator, and its biblical authority used throughout presidential addresses and the significance of women’s rights, the Civil Rights Movement, and more. Praise God for the authority of His Word and for those who respect the authority of His Word. Pray and praise God for the authority that His Word carries in your life.

See Billy Graham woven into this great tapestry. Thank God, as Billy Graham’s words and work brought about the National Day of Prayer. Thank God for him and his family that is still sharing the Word and  serving in the work of God every day.

As we round the corner, we continue to talk about freedom; freedom from want, freedom from injustice, freedom of speech, freedom from slavery, and freedom of religion. Linger here and pray over each of these subjects.

Notice the statues of scientists, Isaac Newton, Galileo, and George Washington Carver. Think about how the God of creation set all of science into motion; the stars, natural laws, biology, and all of science! Many people have discovered God studying science. Pray that all who study will not miss the Creator. Pray for education, that students will be taught truth not cultural agendas. Pray the sciences will continue to reveal the God who created and sustains all that exists.

Across from the statues is an exhibit about Compassion International, Convoy of Hope, and Habitat for Humanity. This area features a profound quote from President Jimmy Carter in 1978 that reminds us that our individual fates are linked, our futures in our intertwined, and if we act in that knowledge, and in that spirit together, as the Bible says, we can move mountains. Pray that you never ever miss an opportunity to be generous. Stop and pray for generous and compassionate hearts and helping hands and feet that come to support those who are in need of relief from disaster, poverty, war, and more.

Next, you will see a space with various work attire and testimonies of those sharing various views of what God, scripture, and prayer means to them. Samuel, the bartender, testifies that it is hard to work with people you don’t want to work for or with, as well as the customers who come in and the way he is treated, but his girlfriend sends him a scripture and a prayer right before he walks into work every day. Stop and pray for the business/workplace sphere. Ask God to show you how your work is worship. Think of someone that you could send scripture and a prayer to as encouragement.

Note the reproduction of the Bible from Queen Elizabeth’s coronation and a Bible that presidents have put their hand on and swear “so help me God,” as they take office of the president of the United States of America. Pray that God will help them. Pray that they will look to Him for their help. See the Scriptures in our everyday language. Pray for people who say these phrases and do not realized it is real Truth.

Circle of Influence

Step into this circle and pray for the faces and spaces in this display.

Jail Cell

Pray for justice, the justice system, and for prison ministry and the Church inside the walls and bars of many prisons today.

At the reproduction of the Gutenberg press, stop to pray. Think about what it means to you to have the Word of God in your house, perhaps multiple Bibles, and the quick and easy access to the Word of God. Imagine what it meant for people to have the Bible in their own language for the first time. Thank God for the access you have to the Bible, as well as Bible studies, commentary, and more.

The Banning and Burning of Bibles

Pause and grieve the hearts and places in the world where the Word is not received.

Bible in the World

Pray for Arts, Entertainment, and Media and all of the ways Christianity and Scripture have touched and been expressed by this sphere as displayed in this area. Note all of the times that scripture used in popular music, the arts, fashion, entertainment, and even spoken during the moon landing.

Note the painted portrait of George Washington in the famous “The Prayer at Valley Forge.” Thank God for our prayerful Founding Fathers who wrote and noted the Word of God and the Sovereignty of God into our founding documents. Pray for our all our government leaders, local, state, and federal. Pray for those representing and serving in your district and state by name.

Bibe in Data

Step in to pray and see the Bible being explored and at work in real time, around the world.

Washington Revelations: (Ticketed experience)

Pray “over” Washington D.C. in the experience as you see some of the various Scriptures that are seen throughout the monuments and buildings in Washing-ton D.C. Pray for those places and all the people who work and visit - may they notice and read the word of God as they pass through by them each day.

Floor Three

As you reach the third floor, you will see the Matthew, Mark, Luke, John Stained-glass in the hallway. “Matthew presents Jesus as the prophesied Messiah, Mark portrays Him as the suffering son of God, Luke emphasizes the arrival of the kingdom of God. John describes Jesus as the divine Son sent from God.” Pray the gospel will be read, said, and received in greater numbers than ever before.

The Hebrew Bible and NT Road to Emmaus experiences take 30 minutes each but are excellent sources of information and inspiration that will give you much to pray about. As you stroll through Nazareth, pray about everyday life, and how Jesus used work in His parables and teachings pray for workplace, family, church etc.

Floor Four

History of the Bible

As you come into this area, you may be astonished at how many pieces of history have archaeologically been discovered and give reference to that which we read in Scripture. Pray that those who have said to the Bible is just a bunch of fairytales and made-up stories, as they walk these halls. Pray that they would realize God is “unde-niable.” The archaeological reliefs from other countries, not Christian countries, have been found confirming the Israelites living in Canaan. The Lachish relief showing the battle of the Assyrians; you can go there in Israel and actually walk up the battle ramp depicted here. Don’t miss the Isaiah scroll found in ancient caves near the Dead Sea, proof time and time again that our Bible has survived thousands of years without change. Pray that people will see this and believe!

The Illuminations Room

This exhibit is a stark reminder of how many people still do not have the Word of God in their language. Pray for everyone serving and striving for Bible  translations and that the Word of God would become a reality and available in every nation, tribe, and tongue in our lifetime.

Floor Five

Pray through the antiquities and special displays that come through this area and pray that more discoveries will continue to be uncovered to help us learn more and draw people closer to the God of every nation and generation throughout time.

The World Theater

This is where many plays, concerts, conferences, and our own National Day of Prayer Broadcast is hosted each year. Pray for all who serve on the stage and sit in these seats to know God and make Him known.

Floor Six

Pray over the Capitol as you pause to look out and over Washington D.C. from this magnificent window and hallway. Pray for all the gatherings, including ours, that take place in this beautiful Gathering Room, all to the glory of God!

A Final Note From Kathy Branzell

We are sure you will find more places that prompt you to pray. Please be sensitive to the Spirit as He guides you through this spiritually special space, holy ground in our nation’s Capital. Bless these halls with your prayers and all who work and serve here.  Know that I am praying for you as you come and walk through the Word of God in prayer.

Serving Him with gladness,

Kathy Branzell
