2025 – National Day of Prayer announcement and invitation.
Dear Pastors and all Christians in Perry County,
Each day many requests may come to your attention. Yet, I come first to encourage you with renewed hope in the power of prayer.
My name is Don Heiden, and I am the coordinator for the National Day of Prayer Task Force (NDPTF) for Perry County, Ms. In 1988 the joint Congress of the United States passed into law a bill naming the first Thursday of May as our National Day of Prayer. President Reagan signed that bill on May 5, 1988 in the presence of Vonette Bright, our first NDPTF president, Congressman Tony Hall, Congressman Frank Wolf, Dr. Jerry Nims, Pat Boone, Congressman Carlos Moorhead, Rabbi Joshua Haberman, Father John O‘Connor and Susan Sorenson.
As the coordinator, I will be helping to bridge groups together across our county to publicly celebrate and participate in this spiritually significant day and unite Christians in prayer for our country and community. As a member of the body of Christ, we would love for your congregation to be involved with us. We are setting up our committees now to determine what our observance will include this year. I want to assure you this will not be a political rally, nor critical of any person, but prayerful and Biblical.
In 2024 we held this event at the Perry County Courthouse at the flagpole on the SE side. For 2025 we will meet at the Perry County Courthouse on May 1 at 12 Noon. The program typically lasts one hour. Weather permitting, we will be outside but in case of bad weather, we have the courtroom reserved. The theme for 2025 is “Pour out to the God of hope and be filled!”
As we begin our planning for this year, we welcome your suggestions and ask you to prayerfully consider speaking to us and if possible, joining us on May 1. Our goal is to have you identify someone we can talk to from your congregation. If you have any questions or would like to reach me, please call or email me at 601-964-3708 (office), dwheiden1959@gmail.com, or 601-964-3388 (cell).
We look forward to assembling the Body of Christ to pray for our community and country. If you would like to learn more about the NDPTF, please visit www.nationaldayofprayer.org. Thank you for your time.
Thanking God today for you,
Don Heiden, AMS, Perry County Baptist Association
