Come join the community in prayer for families, churches, students businesses, government leaders along with some music.

The Prayer Ministry Team will be hosting a Prayer Vigil in connection with the National Day of Prayer, Thursday, May 7th from 6:30 pm- 7:15 pm at the Church. Please come anytime and stay as long as you want. There will be a short “Welcome” at 6:30 pm. This is the 75th annual National Day of Prayer.

Join us for a short prayer gathering lifting our nation, state, and community up before the Lord in prayer. We'll meet outside the main entrance to Buffalo Police Department and begin at 9am.  Prayer guides will be provided.

We will pray for several topics: our country, our local community, our government leaders, our families/all families and our church. We will also pray for personal prayer requests submitted that evening. Prayer will be combined with worship and singing throughout the evening.

Please join us Thursday May 7th at 5pm at City Hall in front of the flag pole to worship, praise and pray for our city, state and nation! 

We will be meeting rain or shine outside, so dress accordingly!

Prayer stations focusing on each NDP center of influence will be available in the community room starting at 6pm for individual or small group prayer. A prayer and worship gathering will begin at 7pm in the sanctuary.

It is a privilege to gather as a body of believers for our nation on the 75th annual National Day of Prayer. We are honored to have church and community members share prayer points for each section of need (church, family, education, arts/entertainment/media), business/workplace, law enforcement/military, and government) followed by prayers at tables and ending with worship. Someone once asked me

Can one day of prayer really do any good?

After all 

In Luke 18:1

“Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.”

The apostle Paul admonishes us in the 1 Thes 5:17  to

“Pray without ceasing”

 So can one special day of prayer make any difference? 

 For an answer we can look back at our American history (as I read about in a Sons of Liberty article) we find out that

Thomas Jefferson called for a day of prayer!

Yes ,the secular icon Jefferson, while a member of the House of Burgesses in 1774, called for a day of prayer in response to the effort of the British to close Boston Harbor after the infamous Boston Tea Party of late 1773. The Crown issued the Boston Port Act on March 7, 1774, designed to destroy the economy of Boston and the Massachusetts Bay colony. Jefferson, in nearby Virginia, believed this dictatorial act required a response.

 His response was to personally draft a resolution for a “Day of Fasting & Prayer,” to be held on June 1, the day the blockade of the harbor was scheduled to begin. The resolution was introduced on May 24 and adopted unanimously.

Among its supporters: Patrick Henry, of “Give me liberty or give me death” fame, Richard Henry Lee, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, and George Mason, the father of the Bill of Rights. 

Here is how Jefferson’s resolution read 

 “This House, being deeply impressed with apprehension…deem it highly necessary that the said first day of June be set apart, by the members of this House, as a Day of Fasting, Humiliation and Prayer, devoutly to implore the Divine interposition, for averting the heavy calamity which threatens destruction to our civil rights…

 “Ordered, therefore, that the Members of this House do attend…with the Speaker, and the mace, to the Church in this City, for the purposes aforesaid; and that the Reverend Mr. Price be appointed to read prayers, and the Reverend Mr. Gwatkin, to preach a sermon.”

 Note, this was “ordered,” not simply recommended or urged. And it was the actual legislators themselves, every one of them, who went to church to participate in this Day of Prayer. This wasn’t just for the churches or the preachers or the people in the pews. No, the lawmakers themselves sensed the urgency of pleading with God for His favor and intervention.

 George Washington participated in this Day of Prayer, writing in his diary, “Went to church, fasted all day.”

 Now Jefferson’s Day of Prayer had its fierce and angry opponents. British Royal Governor, Lord Dunmore, was so incensed that two days after the event he disbanded the House of Burgesses altogether, leaving Virginians with no representative government.

 The response of the Virginians? They didn’t quit in the face of opposition. The elected leaders of Virginia went down the street to the Raleigh Tavern, where they made the momentous decision to convene a Continental Congress. It met for the first time three months later, and two years after that produced the Declaration of Independence which brought the United States into being.

 Bottom line: No Jefferson day of prayer, no Continental Congress. No Continental Congress, no Declaration of Independence. No Declaration of Independence, no United States of America.

 Thus, America owes an infinite debt of gratitude to Thomas Jefferson for declaring a day of prayer and fasting. If we follow the example of the Founders in our day, perhaps God will hear our prayers too.

Please join us at the Lakeville City Hall on Thursday,, May 7, 2026 from Noon to 1 PM.  We will pray as a community for our city, state, and nation.  We will open and close with VFW members presenting/retiring the colors and we will recite the Pledge of Allegiance.  A local pastor and worship leader will lead us in prayer and songs.  Free program and prayer guides will be provided.  Please feel free to bring your family, friends, and neighbors.

Join the Owatonna faith community as we participate in the National Day of Prayer through petitions offered up by community and church leaders. 

We will have a small meal from 5-6:15pm. Prayer service will be at 6:30pm. 

This is an annual Prayer Breakfast.  Our Mayor reads the proclamation for the day.  Several City leaders, Pastors, churches and citizens come for Worship, prayer and a great buffet breakfast.

Our yearly National Day of Prayer event at the Minnesota State Capitol will take place outside on the Upper Mall, beginning with a trumpet call to assembly at 11:30 a.m., followed by worship until noon. The main program will be from noon until 1:15 p.m. In this 250th birthday of our nation, we will honor our military and first responders, celebrate what God has done in our nation’s history, remember miracles and prayerful covenants in U.S. history, rededicate our nation under God, and pray all this forward into the next 250 years of America’s story. Invite your friends, your church, your city and county leaders to this event. This event will be recorded and posted on YouTube at National Day of Prayer - Minnesota.

We will take 1 hour to pray for the 7 mountains of national leadership, have patriotic song,  and afterwards a light refreshment.

St. Martins elementary school and Hope Lutheran High School will join the congregation of St. Martin’s Lutheran Church  and the community in a guided prayer service.  It will follow the outline from NDP materials.
