In New York State, 2026 has seen God moving powerfully for breakthrough after breakthrough! For the first time, every county in New York had a National Day of Prayer gathering, and the New York governor’s office released a National Day of Prayer proclamation – the first in five years!
Across New York there was an explosion of unity among believers, with a growing hunger to further the mission of mobilizing unified, public prayer for America.
Last year, only 32 counties had a registered National Day of Prayer gathering, representing just over half the counties in the state, comprised of 62 counties. Northeast National Area Leader Sheila Kimball could clearly see God orchestrating this 2026 outpouring, even in the months of preparation leading up to May 6th.
God was raising up a greater initiative for prayer, and for the National Day of Prayer,” Sheila Kimball said.
Following the 2025 National Day of Prayer, God raised up new State Coordinators in New York, James Jagnese and Brutus and Judith Charles. After many years of this position remaining vacant, their commissionings were the first visible signs of the outpouring that God had in store for New York State. Shortly thereafter, regional coordinators were commissioned, and the mobilization activity ramped up in earnest.
Kimball and the New York team set a goal: to mobilize at least one NDP gathering in every single county in the state, even if it took multiple years to build up to that many gatherings. Starting in November of 2025, the team began pressing into prayer and planning, identifying past successes, dividing the state into regions, planning equipping meetings, and understanding the spiritual landscape of the path ahead.
Throughout early 2026, the New York team pioneered new relationships across the state, making dozens and dozens of phone calls to pastors and ministry leaders, with many learning about the National Day of Prayer for the first time!
While some leaders declined to participate or didn’t return calls, others immediately felt the Holy Spirit prompting them to get involved and host a prayer gathering themselves or connect the NDP team with the right person to host a gathering.
“They understood the need for prayer in New York,” said Kimball. “Nothing really happens without prayer, and they were excited about the fact that we united the whole state in prayer, because they had never thought of it that way before!”
By late April, a handful of counties were still without a planned National Day of Prayer gathering, despite the diligent mobilization efforts. Kimball and New York State and Regional Coordinators began to press into prayer, asking God to move. And God answered!
In one county, NDP leaders hadn’t been able to make any traction – no returned phone calls from churches, no ‘friend of a friend’ ministry partnership connections, just radio silence. Until a county executive personally reached out to Kimball, asking how to have an NDP gathering in their county! God moved on the heart of this government leader, and a gathering was established there.
Local prayer mobilizers in New York took hold of the vision of National Day of Prayer with a fiery passion – one local ministry leader, Joseph Mazza, notified the New York leaders that he had a team willing to drive 2 to 3 hours, one way, to host a prayer gathering in a county with no gathering planned, so that community would have the opportunity to unite in prayer on the National Day of Prayer!
Truly an Isaiah moment, to have hearts that cry, ‘here I am, send me!’ This kind of incredible generosity and passion can only come from God preparing hearts to walk in His will and join Him in the movement of the Holy Spirit.
And as if that wasn’t enough… God had even more in store!
For the first time in five years, the New York governor’s office released a National Day of Prayer proclamation!
The New York team walked in Godly humility and diligence, faithfully connecting with the proclamation office multiple times to share about local proclamations being released and letting the office staff know they were in prayer for the governor, and in prayer for the office staff by name!
“It all came together so beautifully, I am so grateful to God,” Kimball said.
Lord You are high and lifted up - You are holy, and the earth and all that is in it is Yours! Thank You for the incredible outpouring of Your Holy Spirit in the state of New York. We see You unifying believers and preparing hearts to walk in the plans to You have for them. We praise You for the gatherings that took place on the National Day of Prayer across New York, from front porches to large stadiums, and we rejoice in the boldness that You gave to NDP coordinators to reach out, build new relationships, and invite their communities to pray. Lord, continue to pour out Your Spirit in New York and across America. We submit ourselves to Your will, and ask that You would make our hearts attuned and willing to walk in obedience, to build Your Kingdom and glorify You among our neighbors and the nations. In Jesus' name, amen.
